Health Academy for the Elderly

The Academy aspires to develop a learning network to provide health and elderly care information to enabling the elders, carers, residents, students, property management staff and staff of various merchants to gain deeper understanding of the resources in the community. A platform is also provided for the elders and residents for mutual learning and communication, which enables them in expanding their social networks. Doctors were invited for class design, teaching materials preparation and to conduct the classes. Elders can learn more about the causes of diseases and strengthen their self-care capacity on diseases prevention and diagnosis as early as possible through attending the courses on elderly diseases and nursing. The social and leisure courses intend to help the elders to cultivate leisure activities in which they can also meet new friends in their community, and to build up their own social network. Nonetheless, studying in the Academy allows the carers, family members of the elders and residents to assist their old aged family members or neighbours with medication administration knowledge and nursing skills. Carers are expected to become more aware of the elders' early signs of behavioral and personality changes and to bring them for timely treatment.
