Every year members have the opportunity to compete with each other on arenas in various sports tournaments including badminton, golf, snooker, squash, table-tennis, tennis, tenpin-bowling and football. An 75th Anniversary Family Sports Day was held on 26 November 1995 to provide more exciting events. Since the event was well supported by members, the Family Sports Day and later the Swimming Gala were established an annual event of the Association.
Hiking is another passion of many medical practitioners. In addition to hiking, those enthusiastic hikers formed teams of four to challenge the relentless MacLehose Trail at the annual Trailwalker, a charitable event organised by Oxfam to raise funds for those in need in third world countries.
Thirty years ago, the Golden Jubilee Ball of the Association was held at Hilton Hotel on 5 December 1970. The annual social function, which is mostly held around Christmas, is definitely one of the most joyous occasions of the year. All participants relished the good food, fine music and delightful dance with their partners and friends. Almost every year, professional artists were invited to perform. Among them were Francis Yip, Eliza Chan, Cally Kwong, Alex To and Anita Mui whose breathtaking performances were most impressive. To recall, the most attended one was on 6 December 1975 held at the then Convention Centre with more than 960 members and guests. Since the 1980s, the function mostly took place at the Regent Hotel whose capacity is smaller but with equally delicious delicacies and a magnificent dance floor. The annual social function is just like a reunion of one big family under which the ties between members grow stronger every day. Since we marched into the millennium, our Annual Social Function has been moved to the new Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Building.
